When it was announced on Thursday that the Italian Football Federation had accepted the trust idea and gave the green light for Salernitana to take part in Serie A, we thought we’d seen the end of Andrea Radrizzani’s attempts to buy the club.
After all, the Leeds owner’s close adviser and man charged with the purchase of the club, Sandro Mencucci, made it clear that if the trust was created, they wouldn’t be interested in making an offer, stated they wouldn’t ‘care’.
Well, it appears he was wrong, or that Radrizzani doesn’t know when to give up, as Le Cronache di Salerno report, relayed by Tutto Salernitana, explain he is still ‘ready to buy the club’.
In fact, he wants to ‘immediately secure’ the deal and will ‘formalise the offer of around €45m in the next few hours’, which he put forward to Claudio Lotito and Marco Mezzaroma over the past few days without every hearing from them.
The idea of doing it quickly is so the Leeds owner can then get on with transfer business and get the team ready for Serie A and help them avoid relegation.
Will there be some kind of relationship between the Elland Road side and Salernitana if that happens, a bit like Watford and Udinese?
That would certainly make sense, and perhaps even help some of the players pushed to one side under Marcelo Bielsa to get a quick option to get some regular game time on loan.
