Even though Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto is just 20-years-of-age, he already has 13 caps for the Italian national team, and had been regularly called up by them since April 2022.
It turns out that he’s now been called up by the Azzurri’s U-21 squad, and that’s why TuttoMercatoWeb now writes that he’s been ‘relegated’ from the senior side.
Gnonto is now set to be part of Italy U-21’s squad which will play San Marino and Ireland in the quest for a place at the U-21 Euros.
That’s certainly a blow for the youngster, who may now start to think whether his time with Leeds in the Championship is affecting his international career.
Gnonto hasn’t exactly been brilliant for the Whites this season, with one goal and one assist in ten appearances, besides missing a few games due to injury.
The Italian media often reports that Serie A clubs have kept an eye on him over the past couple of years, and in case there are any signs he’s unsettled at Leeds, then it wouldn’t be surprising to see clubs coming for him in the upcoming transfer windows.
