Leeds United will make a renewed effort for Cody Gakpo in January, after being turned down yesterday.
That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who says the player has promised PSV Eindhoven he will not be making a transfer on deadline day.
The forward has been linked with a move away from PSV all summer, having impressed last season and earned himself plenty of admirers in England.
Leeds are one of them and made a late bid for his signature yesterday but were met with resistance from PSV and the player, the latter deciding to stay where he is for the time being.
That’s not killed off their interest, though, with Elfrink report that they will try to get Gakpo in the January transfer window.
According to his information, they were ‘surprised’ by the player’s decision to stay in the Netherlands, with the player making it clear today that he does not intend to move for now.
That stance can always change in the coming months and Leeds are definitely going to test his resolve, but for now that deal won’t be happening.
