Barcelona’s pursuit for Leeds United star Raphinha had a bit of a plot twist today, as new claims from the Spanish media claim the winger ‘doesn’t have a release clause’.

The report is featured by Sport, who now claims the Whites have no limits when making their requests to sell the 24-year-old this summer.

So Barcelona, who already improved their offer from €35m to €50m, now have a harder time to sign him from Leeds, who ‘have no need to sell’ the player in the next transfer window.

It’s claimed there’s actually another kind of clause in his contract. That’s in case of the Whites’ relegation to the Championship, which would allow him to leave for €25m.

Raphinha’s release clause had been reported by a few outlets in the past few weeks.

One of those reporting it was Brazilian website UOL, who claimed that during the talks for a renewal, the player had been requesting for Leeds to reduce it from the reported €75m.

With Premier League clubs not used to including a release clause in player’s contracts, it does make sense that the Whites’ star doesn’t have one, even though it goes against what had been repeated so much certainty.

In fact, an hour or so after the Sport article was published, Victor Orta, speaking to Radio Marca, confirmed that Raphinha doesn’t have a release clause in his contract should Leeds United remain in the Premier League.
