Long-retired from professional football, Teddy Sheringham is now enjoying life to its fullest, currently in Mauritius playing golf to raise money for charity.

While there, he spoke to local newspaper L’Express, who asked him about both Tottenham and Manchester United, two clubs he represented as a player during his career.

The now 55-year-old had two separate spells with Spurs, first between 1992 and 1997 before returning there from Old Trafford in 2001 until 2003.

He scored 113 times in 264 appearances for Tottenham, firmly making him a club legend, and he still holds a strong affinity for the London side.

Asked about Spurs and their current situation, he said: “I think Tottenham have a very good manager. I think he’s perfect for the role he has. Pochettino was fantastic a few years ago. They tried to change things by naming Mourinho. It clearly didn’t work and when Nuno came, again, it didn’t work, but the club are always trying to improve.

“We aren’t sure if it’s going in the ideal direction at the moment, but he certainly has the qualifications, inspiration and enthusiasm to take Tottenham forward.”

Following the disappointment that was Nuno Espirito Santo’s short spell at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the arrival of Antonio Conte has seen things change quickly and efficiently in north London.

There have been a number of ups and downs, but few will disagree with Sheringham, as the Italian is clearly doing his best and a good summer transfer window, alongside Fabio Paratici, could take the club up another level.
