Leeds United defender Robin Koch will be allowed to join up with the German National Team in time for the European Championships thanks to a ‘trick’ to avoid quarantine.
That’s according to Sport 1, who explain how Leeds have worked with the player to ensure he has a shot at featuring for Germany this summer.
They explained that the Germans are set to start their camp for the European Championships in Seefeld, Austria today, and Koch is among them.
Until recently, it was unclear if that would be the case as England has been designated a virus variant area due to the new Indian variant of COVID.
That would mean Koch and any other players arriving from England would have to spend time in quarantine, but the Leeds man has ‘circumvented’ that problem.
They explain that Leeds allowed the defender to have ‘special leave’ and miss the last two weeks of the season because they had comfortably avoided relegation.
He was therefore left out of the squad for their last two games so he could fly back to Germany and spend the required time in quarantine.
He spent that time working with a private trainer, training in the gym and on the pitch, on the advice of his management, who wanted him in top shape for Germany.
He’s now with the squad at their training camp ahead of schedule, with Leeds help giving his chances of making the final tournament squad a major boost.
