Leeds United striker Georginio Rutter ‘didn’t really want’ to move to Elland Road in the January transfer window and had to be talked into the switch by his agent.

That’s according to Kicker, who cover the player today and how he has swapped one relegation battle with the German side for another at Elland Road.

Rutter joined Leeds in a €28m deal from Hoffenheim midway through January as the Whites spent big in the winter window to bolster their squad.

He’s struggled to impress since his arrival, though, failing to score in any of his six appearances so far or play anything more than a substitute role under Jesse Marsch and now Javi Gracia.

It’s too early to label the transfer a failure but Kicker reports the forward is unlikely to be happy, having not wanted to join Leeds in the first place.

They explain that his thoughts on the move to Leeds were ‘revealed’ from the second a move ‘became apparent’ at the beginning of January.

According to them, Rutter ‘didn’t really want to leave’ and ‘shed bitter tears’ when it was made clear that he would be moving to England.

He had to be convinced on the switch by his agent Roger Wittmann, who was forced to fly to Hoffenheim’s training camp in Portugal to ‘reassure his client’ about the transfer and ‘push the mega deal’ as it would ‘bring in a lot of money’ for everyone involved.

That was particularly the case for Hoffenheim, who are set to pocket as much as €40m from Leeds should things go to plan.
