Leeds United are yet to appoint a new manager after sacking Jesse Marsch earlier this week. They have identified a few candidates and those include Marcelo Gallardo, who is without a club since leaving River Plate at the end of last year.
On Thursday, Plaza Deportiva reported the Whites are facing strong competition from Valencia to hire the 47-year-old.
Later that day, reports from Argentina stated Gallardo had asked for time to respond after Leeds made first contacts a few weeks ago.
TyC Sports now claim the Argentinian has ‘rejected the chance to lead’ Leeds United, and they detail reasons for the same.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani seems is impressed with Gallardo’s methods and would have already made him a formal offer. In his response, the South American said he is in no rush to manage a new club.
Gallardo wants to start a new project from the beginning of the season, which is why he wants to wait until the summer to return to the bench. In addition to this, he doesn’t speak English.
Even though he can use the help of a translator, Gallardo feels the need to know the language to establish a strong bond with the players. This is another reason for rejecting Leeds.
Gallardo joins Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola in turning down the chance to manage Leeds.
