In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was spotted watching the match between Argentina and Chile at the Levi’s Stadium with a man who many are claiming was Gonzalo Higuain’s brother, Nicolas, or Klopp’s son, Marc.
Firstly, a man to one side of Klopp was said to be Higuain’s brother, and when many claimed that was actually Marc Klopp, the man to the other side of the Liverpool manager suddenly became Higuain’s brother.
The match was in California, Liverpool have some pre-season games there so Klopp may have been prepping. Even if not, it’s not unusual for him to holiday there, and he’d always be likely to attend the game in the privileged section, hence being near agents and relatives.
Wednesday’s edition of Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, reiterates Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was present at Levi’s Stadium in United States to watch Gonzalo Higuain, as he has been a long term admirer of the Argentine.
Gazzetta say rumours from California suggest about a possible contact between the two parties, and Klopp is trying to figure out a way to bring Higuain to Merseyside.
Napoli’s President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has made it clear the player won’t be allowed to leave for anything less than €94.7m, but Gazzetta reckon those figures are not going to scare Liverpool, who are ready to open negotiations in the hope of a ‘steep discount’.
It is reported Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing Higuain to Anfield, as he wants him to lead the attack next season, and the player could be tempted to leave Napoli if Liverpool offer him a lucrative contract.
Napoli, however, have already offered the 28-year-old wages worth €7m a year until 2020, and Liverpool will have to obviously offer more more than that.
It’s difficult to say, if Liverpool are genuinely interested in signing the player, as the player has also been linked to the likes of Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, who could easily offer more money.
Another Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, have their own angle. Going over Klopp’s possible interest in Higuain, it’s stated that a quick check revealed claims of a meeting between the Liverpool manager and Higuain’s brother are ‘unfounded’, stating it didn’t happen.
