Colombia legend Tino Asprilla has warned James Rodriguez he is in the last chance saloon if he makes a move from Everton to Atlético Madrid.
Rodriguez is looking likely to leave Everton before the end of the transfer window, with it made clear that the Blues are happy to let him go.
He’s been dropping hints about his future for weeks via social media, with the latest seeing him post Atlético Madrid’s slogan with a ‘soon’ emoji.
That led to a flurry of rumours that he could be returning to Spin, particularly given Rodriguez had an agreement with Diego Simeone’s side last season before seeing the move blocked by Real Madrid.
The Everton midfielder has since denied he was hinting at any move, claiming that he did not know about Atlético’s motto and was simply posting positive vibes on social media.
Whether you believe him is up to you, but Asprilla has warned him should he leave Everton for the Wanda Metropolitano, it will be his last chance.
“James has to understand once and for all that this is the last one he’s going to get; either he grabs it or…” Olé report him saying.
“Where else is he going to go and play next?
“He knows, he has to be an intelligent boy and know that, if he goes to Atlético Madrid, it’s the last chance.
“And it’s the last chance to be at the World Cup, which is what he wants and what we all want.
“So he knows that he has to play well, train well, don’t show off any more, talk less and play more. That’s all he has to do.”
