Chelsea find themselves 10th in the Premier League after six matches so far this season.
Last season the club finished fourth in their first season under Frank Lampard, and it was widely thought the manager was doing a good job.
Questions have started to be raised during the current campaign, although it’s not thought Lampard is under any immediate danger of losing his job. Opinions on the coach have been quite polarised and it’s clearly too early to judge whether the current campaign is going to be a success or not.
There’s been some suggestions that Lampard gets an easy ride because of his career as a player, and the connections he has within English football. Some of the claims in that regard have come from Italy, and journalist Stefano Boldrini is very much in that camp.
He believes that if it was Maurizio Sarri with the same record then the manager would have been shown the door at Chelsea already. Quoted by TuttoJuve, Boldrini said: “If Sarri had had a start like Lampard this year at Chelsea he would be fired, Lampard was protected.”
Sarri left the Blues in 2019, having won the Europa League and finished third in the Premier League.
