As the Portuguese media continues to talk about Wolverhampton Wanderers’ chase for Sporting midfielder João Palhinha, we get to see two interesting stories about those moves today.
One of them comes from newspaper O Jogo. They claim that the Lions’ player was ‘elected’ to replace Ruben Neves at the Molineux and Wolves ‘will advance with an offer’ soon.
Now since Bruno Lage’s side are still to sell their star and have been showing some ‘lack of financial capacity’, they want a discount on Palhinha.
So there’s now a possibility they could change the agreement for Ruben Vinagre to get the midfielder for a cheaper price.
The fullback was loaned to the Lions at the start of the season, with an obligatory buying option. That meant the Lisbon side would spend €10m this summer, and 50% of a future transfer would still belong to Wolves.
So to take advantage of this situation, Sporting’s idea is now to have at least 75% of the player’s share, and they could then allow Palhinha to leave to the Molineux for something around €20m, rather than the €30m they have been asking for his sale.
Meanwhile, newspaper Jornal de Notícias has a totally different take on the case.
It’s claimed that even though Wolves already started talks with Sporting for Palhinha’s transfer, they now have the situation in ‘standby’.
That’s because the priority is to first sell Ruben Neves, and then place their official bid for the Lions’ player.
It’s said Bruno Lage even gave the ‘green light’ for the signing, but they need to sell their star first.
