On November 29th, Sport stated Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola likes Barcelona youngster Nico González.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks of the La Liga side’s youth system and made his first team debut last August.
This season, he has been on the pitch for close to 1,300 minutes across 23 matches in all competitions, managing two goals and an assist in the process.
Fichajes.net has a report, titled; ‘Manchester City want to throw the house out the window for Nico González’
Fernandinho, 36, has a contract expiring in June and his exit after this season will leave City with Rodri as the only defensive midfielder in the squad. Therefore, the Premier League winners want to strengthen the position next summer.
It’s claimed ‘Guardiola’s wish’ is to sign the Barcelona man and the manager ‘intends’ to bring the Spain U21 international to Manchester.
González has the ability to play in more than one position in midfield and also has ‘the projection to be one of the best in his position in a short time’. He is aware of Guardiola’s style of play and is viewed as a ‘natural fit’ for the English champions.
Manchester City will face an obstacle from Xavi Hernández’s side because Barcelona don’t want to sell González. The player has a contract until 2024 and Fichajes.net state his ‘price may still be very high’.
