Tottenham forward Bryan Gil has admitted he has no idea where his future lies beyond the end of this season.
Gil is currently on loan with Spanish side Valencia, whom he joined on loan in the January transfer window until the end of the season.
He’s been a massive hit at the club since his arrival, establishing himself as a first-team star under Jose Bordalas and earning himself fan-favourite status in the process.
His performances have already put him in contention for return to the Spain squad, with Luis Enrique believed to be keeping an eye on him, adding to the belief that his time at Valencia is working for all parties.
The La Liga side are determined to keep him next season if they can, with numerous reports since January making it clear that they will do all they can to convince Tottenham to sanction another deal for next season.
Whether that happens remains to be seen, with it explained Valencia using every trick in the book to make Gil think staying is his best option.
He’s certainly enjoying himself at the Mestalla, more than he had at Tottenham since arriving last summer anyway, although even he doesn’t know if he’ll be returning.
“The certainty is that my loan will end in June,” Estadio Deportivo report him saying.
“Who knows if I’ll stay for another year? If I tell you that I’m staying for another year or not, I’d be lying to you.”
It seems, then, that Gil’s future remains in the air for the time being. Yesterday we covered how a return to the Spain squad could play a deciding factor, and that has now happened.
It was felt a return would be further validation to staying at Valencia, particularly with the World Cup coming at the end of the year.
Perhaps now he has been handed that call-up, it will help convince him Valencia is the right place for him and, thus push Tottenham to do a deal for next season.
