Liverpool’s interest in the Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes is now being taken quite seriously by the Portuguese media.

As the 23-year-old’s great form gets stories in several local newspapers today, both A Bola and O Jogo give the Reds a mention, putting Jurgen Klopp as a potential candidate to land the player in the next transfer window.

O Jogo had already reported Liverpool’s chase over the weekend, and back up their story today. They claim Klopp is considering making formal offer, as the Reds have already spoken to the player’s entourage in order to know the transfer conditions.

Newspaper A Bola also claims Liverpool could go for him, but not without competition. Both Tottenham and Atletico Madrid would be along with the Reds in the race.

None of the clubs will have an easy task to sign Fernandes this summer. Currently protected by a €100m release clause, the midfielder is highly rated by Sporting, who don’t want him to go anywhere in the next transfer window.

It means that only a very good bid would convince the Lions to sell, and that should be close to the release clause.

With Emre Can leaving Anfield at the end of the season, maybe Fernandes could turn out to be the perfect replacement. But the German midfielder is moving for free, while the Portuguese will require a heavy investment.
