While Antoine Griezmann may have finally completed his move to Barcelona, the fall out from it is likely to continue for some time.

The move has soured the relationship between both clubs considerably and such is the disaster zone other players were always likely to get caught up in it. Nelson Semedo falls firmly into that category.

Atletico wanted the Portuguese right-back this summer but Marca explain that’s never going to happen because ‘the Catalans are not willing to negotiate with Atlético for him.’

That meant Atleti have turned their attention elsewhere and are now pushing to sign Kieran Trippier from Tottenham instead.

AS explain that the England right-back was viewed as the alternative to Semedo and with that deal now off, they’ve turned to get a deal done with Spurs instead.

The newspaper says he will cost the La Liga side €30m and that talks between the two clubs ‘are very advanced’ and that Trippier will be the first choice under Diego Simeone next season with Santiago Arias playing back up.

Trippier has been linked with an exit all summer long and with Spurs not standing in the way, this one looks like it could be completed sooner rather than later.

While Semedo has suffered courtesy of Griezmann-gate, the Englishman has turned out to be a huge beneficiary.

In a separate article, Marca add Trippier will travel to Spain on Tuesday or Wednesday.
