After securing loan deal, club look to ensure Man City youngster remains long-term

Yesterday we brought you an update on the future of Manchester City youngster Manu Garcia.

The young midfielder was heading back to the Etihad this summer after a loan spell in France with Toulouse. The plan was to sort out his future with City and head out on loan once again.

Sporting Gijon was his likeliest destination and for all intents and purposes, the move to the La Liga 2 side was done and dusted.

The move is yet to be announced, though, and now COPE have moved to explain what’s going on behind the scenes.

They explain that the deal has been finalised but the two clubs are exploring how to present it because ‘the operation with City includes many variables’.

Although the initial deal taking Garcia to Sporting is a loan, there is plenty of small print in the agreement.

First and foremost, both Garcia and Sporting want this move to be a long-lasting one. He wants to stay for more than the loan spell and the club want that as well.

If they secure promotion to La Liga next season that will happen but the club are hoping to get a deal done before that and avoid any disappointment should they not secure promotion. As part of the deal, Manchester City would have an option to re-sign Garcia via a buyback clause.

They aim to not only ensure he comes back next season but ‘that the Spaniard sees the rojiblanca with a long-term contract.’ The Spanish club wants to get the wording of the agreement spot on and that’s what’s causing the hold-up.
