Portuguese website Mais Futebol is quite glad to have interviewed the Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this week.
In a story today, they claim that the player was only speaking to the Danish media after the game against France, and walking through the journalists, he only stopped when they shouted “Kasper, to Portugal!”
The interview didn’t have anything about Leicester City or the Premier League. What they first asked Kasper about was his time in Portugal, as he played for Estoril during the years when Peter Schmeichel was featuring for Sporting.
Asked if he remembers those years, Schmeichel said: “Of course I do. It was a long time ago and it was for only two years, but I still have some memories of those times. They were good times for me. It was my youth, gave me a good football base, we won the championship we played that year, so they were good times, yes.
“I remember well the great weather in Lisbon. The weather in Portugal is something that I definitely miss,” he told Mais Futebol.
“I liked to train on the beach, it was a lot of fun. Many times we went to practice on the beach and I really enjoyed those times. It was something I was not used to. I also liked to play in the sand and I remember the boys, I was welcomed and we had a good relationship.”
Schmeichel was also asked how far can Denmark in the World Cup. And for a player who has won the Premier League for Leicester City, there’s nothing in football he will find impossible to achieve.
“I think since the time when Leicester were champions, everyone can believe in miracles. Denmark being world champion would be another miracle, but after what we did with Leicester, why not believe it?”
