Liverpool are yet to make a move for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos but are believed to be the best-placed side to secure his signature this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Reds economic situation puts them ahead of the other suitors chasing Carlos’ signature.
The centre back has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer after an impressive season with Sevilla, who he joined from Nantes for €15m last year.
Numerous reports have indicated that Jürgen Klopp believes the Brazilian will be the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s defence and is keen to secure a big-money move.
They are not the only side keen on him but, in a piece looking to explain the situation today, Estadio Deportivo make clear they are the best-placed side to secure his signature.
The website states that while neither Sevilla or the player’s agents have received an offer as yet, they are expecting one from Liverpool as Klopp has made him a ‘priority target’.
They believe the Reds have ‘more money’ than their rivals and will offer a ‘much more interesting’ price when the bidding does start.
Why is that? Well because Barcelona are ‘quite limited’ in what they can do this summer, while Real Madrid can’t have him as they have already filled up their allotted ‘foreigner’ spots in the squad. Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are looking at cheaper options.
It’s also explained that Napoli, another one of his suitors, don’t have the cash and are in a ‘complicated economic situation’ themselves.
That leaves the road almost clear for Liverpool, although they will still need to find an agreement over his price tag.
Sevilla know it will likely be challenging to get his €75m release clause but are still expecting a fee above the €50m mark to help them balance their books.
