Sporting winger Rafael Camacho scored a beautiful goal on Saturday, which was crucial for his side’s comeback against Portimonense in the Portuguese Cup.
Following his €5m move from Liverpool last summer, the 19-year-old is still fighting for his place in the Lions’ first team. This was his first goal in 11 appearances for the club so far.
Newspaper A Bola made a story about it today, and it turns out they’ve found out that Jurgen Klopp has telephoned the player to congratulate him for the goal.
It was Camacho’s father Euclides who told the story, when speaking to A Bola about the day he’s enjoyed after the goal.
“Rafael’s awakening was with great joy, after Sporting’s great game, with that comeback, especially with his contribution, a good performance and a great goal,” he told A Bola.
“Rafael was even happier when he received a call from Jurgen Klopp to congratulate him on the goal. In fact, they exchanged congratulations, as Rafael congratulated him on winning the Club World Cup. They have a great affection for each other.”
Sporting tried to sign Camacho for some time, and it was reported that Klopp blocked the player’s move back in January 2019, claiming he would have more chances in Liverpool’s first team. The promise was never fulfilled, and the winger left the Reds with only two appearances for the club.
