Earlier today, we covered claims from Portugal saying Manchester United’s withdrawal from the race for Bruno Fernandes could give new chances for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to sign the midfielder.
This is all based on Italian claims of United interest in Sergej Milinković-Savić, and is an over the top reaction from the Portuguese media.
In André Pipa’s column in A Bola today, there’s actually an urge for the player to impress Jurgen Klopp so he can sign for the Reds.
The headline says ‘Good evening Klopp, I’m Bruno’, and is about what the player can do in tonight’s friendly between the Lions and Liverpool.
Pipa recalls that Cristiano Ronaldo impressed Sir Alex Ferguson in a friendly back in 2003, convincing Manchester United to spend €15m on him.
Now since ‘it’s been said’ Manchester United are not keen on paying what Sporting demand for Fernandes, the player should take the chance: ‘There are trains that only pass once in a lifetime.’
Pipa then adds: ‘The stadium is in the heart of the Bronx, one of New York’s five boroughs, of which the essence was masterfully captured by Robert De Niro in a movie (A Bronx Tale) premiered on September 14, 1993, and Bruno Fernandes was not yet born.’
He tells Fernandes to remember the need not to miss an opportunity when he passes by Jurgen Klopp at the start of the game, and finishes the article with a song: ‘If you can make it there (New York), you can make it anywhere.’
André Pipa needs a holiday, we may join him.
