After Romelu Lukaku managed to burn all bridges to Inter Milan when he spoke to Juventus, the Belgian was also the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia, which Chelsea were rather keen for him to accept.
This would have meant a big pay packet for him, as well as a hefty transfer fee for the Blues, but the striker decided he wanted to stay in Europe a while longer, and eventually went to AS Roma on loan for the current campaign.
As for what happens after that, however, journalist Fabio Santini, speaking to TV Play, claims the Chelsea man has it already figured out, and it involves leaving Europe.
He said: “Lukaku? It’s difficult to see a return with Juventus because he has already said yes to a million-dollar proposal from Saudi Arabia. To Roma fans, I say that at the end of the year one thing is certain: Romelu will leave”.
Contracted to Chelsea until 2026 following his big €113m transfer from Inter Milan back in 2021, Lukaku is extremely unlikely to see that through.
Therefore, an exit, like one to Saudi Arabia, could do everyone the world of good, all depending on whether big clubs from Europe come knocking in the summer or not.
The hope was for him to find some form in Italy once again away from Chelsea, which he has managed to do, having found the back of the net 11 times in 18 appearances, also picking up one assist along the way.
