Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in Twente midfielder Sem Steijn but may struggle to convince him to move to England.

That’s according to journalists Tijmen van Wissing and Bert van Losser, relayed by Twente Insite, who has revealed Brighton are watching the 23-year-old.

Steijn has been in impressive form for Twente this season, with 18 goals and four assists in 22 games in the Eredivisie and 22 goals and five assists in 35 games in all competitions.

He’s been steadily impressing since joining on a free transfer from ADO Den Haag, in July 2022, bagging 47 goals and 10 assists in 111 games for the club so far.

That’s earned him plenty of attention, particularly from the Premier League, where several clubs have already been credited with an interest in him.

Brighton and Hove Albion can now be thrown into the mix, at least according to Van Wissing, who insists they are keeping an eye on him.

He, though, believes Steijn may have other ambitions and prefer a switch to southern Europe over the south coast of England if he is to move this summer.

“Sem Steijn is again not in the pre-selection of Oranje. I had hoped a little bit for FC Twente that he would be there. I would have liked that boy immensely too,” he said.

“He is on Brighton & Hove Albion’s radar,” added Van Losser. “Yes, Brighton….” replied Van Wissing.

“But when you become top scorer in the Netherlands…his preference I think is for southern Europe. Preferably Italy or Spain. But I would still advise him nice Germany.”
