If there’s one man who few expected to bounce back after his time with Leeds United last season, it was Weston McKennie.

The midfielder had been loaned to the Elland Road side from Juventus, where things didn’t go well for him, ultimately unable to stop the Whites from going back down to the Championship.

He returned to Italy where he did everything in his power to prove himself, ultimately convincing Max Allegri to play him, which journalist Federico Zancan pointed out on Sky Italia, relayed by Juventus News 24, as he was discussing the former Leeds loanee.

He said: “McKennie has become one of Juve’s key men. After his loan at Leeds, he has become a new player, also valuable for tactical solutions. He also played right-back.”

This is something we have seen a number of times in the Italian media, with it stated repeatedly how impressive the player’s comeback has been after his failed stint with Leeds.

The general expectation was for the USA international to be sold in the summer, but a good pre-season managed to put that thought out of Juventus’ mind, as Allegri turned to his versatile player more and more.

Since returning from Leeds, the 25-year-old has made 26 appearances in all competitions, picking up seven assists.
