Manchester United seemed to have change their stance on Cristiano Ronaldo, if the latest reports coming out of England are to be believed.
Erik ten Hag had publicly insisted the forward will not be allowed to leave, but that has now changed. The Red Devils are willing to part ways with the 37-year-old in the final weeks of the summer window.
Atlético Madrid are among the clubs linked with the former Real Madrid star, even though their officials have publicly dismissed this possibility.
Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre is a close friend of the Portugal international and has shared key updates on Los Rojiblancos’ efforts to sign the player. Aguirre made these comments to El Chiringuito, relayed by Sport.
According to the journalist, Diego Simeone was the one who made direct contact with Ronaldo.
“It was Simeone who called Cristiano and not the other way around. Let no one sell anything else because it is not true,” Aguirre said.
He further stressed the Atlético manager has called the Manchester United player on multiple occasions. It needs to be seen whether this contact will be converted into a firm approach from the La Liga side for Ronaldo before the window closes.
