Lass Diarra has been linked with a move to Manchester United more than once since Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford.
The pair worked together during the manager’s first spell with Chelsea, and whilst they had their rows, Diarra has spoken fondly of the relationship he had with Mourinho and it seems there was a real mutual respect between the pair.
Despite managing to do well with Marseille, and getting called up for France’s Euro 2016 squad, only to get injured, Diarra then moved to Al Jazira, going completely off the radar.
With his contract there now terminated by mutual consent, Diarra has been repeatedly linked with PSG by the French media in recent days. A free transfer has been talked up, even if PSG aren’t really crying out for such a player.
This sounds like a temptation for Mourinho, a manager who has shown he’s not afraid to bring in a veteran to add strength and experience to a squad.
With Manchester United using Scott McTominay recently, Marouane Fellaini being a doubt for the future, and Michael Carrick not having played since September, it’s not hard to argue the Old Trafford need is greater than that in Paris.
Diarra would be free, leaving funds to be spent elsewhere, and can play a midfield role in different systems. The 32 year old can also be deployed at right back, adding a little more depth for Mourinho.
It wouldn’t be the most glamorous of signings, but it would be one which perhaps fits the Mourinho transfer mould.
