If Sport are to be believed on Wednesday, Manchester United are taking an interest in Atlético Madrid’s Sime Vrsaljko for the upcoming transfer window.
Needing full-backs for the 2018-19 season, José Mourinho has apparently drawn up a list of targets on which the Croatian features but isn’t number one.
For the right-back role, Sport believe the Portuguese manager would ideally like Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin, but that might be a bit complicated.
Firstly, Arsenal are said to want around €40m for the Spaniard, but there’s also the fact the Gunners don’t want to let one of their key players go to a rival, wanting to avoid coming across as a ‘selling club’.
That’s why Mourinho has turned his attention to the Croatia international, whose versatility will obviously come as a bonus.
Capable of also playing down the left, the 26-year-old has featured 21 times for Atlético this season in the league, meaning he’s not indispensable to Diego Simeone’s plans.
Sport believe the La Liga club would be willing to sell Vrsaljko if the right offer come along, allowing them to use the money to strengthen other areas of their squad.
No amount is mentioned, but with four years left on his current deal, Atlético are in a position of strength to set their own terms, whatever those might be.
