Jorginho’s agent has confirmed the midfielder will join Manchester City in the summer transfer window, if the Premier League winners and Napoli can “find an agreement”.
The Brazil-born Italian international moved to Naples from Hellas Verona in 2014. He has developed as a player at Napoli and this season’s form has seen him attract interest from several top clubs across Europe.
Pep Guardiola’s side were also interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. However, City have ended their interested in Fred, who is also said to be a target for their neighbours Manchester United.
The English champions have set their sights on bringing Jorginho to the Etihad this summer.
Jorginho’s contract at the Stadio San Paolo runs down in 2020 and it is now for Napoli to decide whether to allow the midfielder to join Manchester City or not. The 26-year-old’s agent Joao Santos also stressed that his client will continue with his current employers if Guardiola’s side fail to agree a deal with the Serie A outfit.
“At this moment Jorginho is still under contract but if Napoli finds an agreement with City, the player will go to Manchester. Finding an agreement with the English club will not be a problem considering the importance of the team,” Santos told CalcioNapoli24. it.
“But, I repeat, that will depend on the decisions of Napoli as the player is tied for another two years.
“City are the Champions of England and are one of the top European clubs. If Napoli and City find a solution, we can talk about it, otherwise he will be happy to continue in Naples.
“At the moment, I have not heard anything from the leadership of Napoli. I hope to hear from the director and maybe in the next few days I will be in Naples to talk about it.”
