La Liga president Javier Tebas has come out in support of Rodri, after the Manchester City star complained about players being overworked, according to Sport.

Last season, the midfielder missed 11 games for Manchester City in all competitions. He finished with 4,327 minutes from 50 matches and then went on to play six games for Spain at the Euro 2024.

Manchester City’s fixture list will only grow this season. That’s because of the increase in the number of Champions League group stage fixtures and they have made it to the FIFA Club World Cup next summer.

On Tuesday, the 28-year-old spoke to the reporters ahead of the Citizens’ Champions League clash against Inter Milan. He was asked if the overworked players are close to going on a strike.

“Yes, I think we are close to that. If this continues like this, we will have no other option. It is something that worries us,” he said.

The Spain international has joined Manchester City teammate Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal in criticising the packed schedule and football calendar. The La Liga side’s chief has now responded to the former Atlético Madrid man’s complaints.

“What these organisations, like FIFA, are looking for is that we reduce our national competitions. The new [format of the] Champions League is taking money away from the national leagues,” he said, relayed by Sport.

Rodri missed the start of the season due to an injury. He has made one appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.
