Tottenham fans will remember Kevin Wimmer as a signing who unfortunately failed to reach the expectations put on him, and eventually left for Stoke City.
He was at Spurs at a time when Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen formed arguably the best defensive pairing in the Premier League and Wimmer was, in some ways, unfortunate.
Now at Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava, Wimmer is playing in the Champions League this season – something he also managed to do at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino.
Kronen Zeitung state that Wimmer will feature in Slovan Bratislava’s Champions League game against Celtic today and they interviewed the Austrian ahead of the match. He spoke about the feeling of playing in the competition again at the age of 31.
Referring to his Champions League debut with Tottenham, a 2-1 loss to AS Monaco, Winner said: “Every footballer dreams of that. When you hear the anthem, it still feels surreal!”
Slovan Bratislava will also take on Manchester City in the next few weeks and the defender spoke about the possibility of facing the English champions and coming face to face with Erling Haaland.
“I am really looking forward to City, I have a huge task ahead of me against Haaland, he is currently the best striker in the world. We have to stick together, because you have almost no chance against him alone.”
The centre-back is an important part of the Slovan Bratislava side, and is relishing his second chance of Champions League football after getting his first taste with Tottenham.
