Dedryck Boyata wanted to leave Celtic during the summer transfer window.
It was no secret, the player’s agent was open about the situation, and a move away from Celtic Park was expected, especially in the Belgian media.
It was thought that given Boyata had less than a year of contract left, and was at the World Cup with Belgium, Brendan Rodgers’ side wouldn’t be able to hold back from accepting one of the offers which would arrive.
But, clearly, no offers temping enough did turn up, and there wasn’t a great stampede of clubs looking to sign the defender.
Accusations were sent towards Celtic by Boyata’s camp, and there was some fall out, but in reality there didn’t appear to be the interest that was expected.
HLN report on Monday that a January transfer is now a ‘realistic option’ for the Celtic player. The Scottish Premiership side aren’t thought to be counting on a new contract any longer.
For a move to happen, there needs to be enough interest for a club to pay a fee Celtic would accept, and give Boyata the free agent style wages he’s likely eyeing.
That isn’t a certainty.
