The last few weeks haven’t exactly been great for Dortmund, failing to pick up points in three of their last five games in all competitions, including a 3-1 loss to Lazio in the Champions League.
Something just isn’t clicking, and the club have seen some individual performances dip this season, like that of Jadon Sancho, who spent the transfer window wondering whether or not he might get a move to Manchester United.
The forward was a target for Ed Woodward throughout most of the summer, but Dortmund’s asking price meant the England international stayed in Germany, where he will have to wait until, most likely, next year to get a move away from the Bundesliga side.
Normally collecting goals and assists aplenty, the 20-year-old has failed to reproduce his scintillating form so far, scoring just once and assisting two goals in five assists.
It might seem harsh to criticise him for that, but Bild explain on Thursday that Sancho just isn’t himself.
They look at the current situation and point out that when the young stars at the club play well ‘it really goes off’.
However, ‘Bellingham and Reyna have to get used to the consistently high level first’ and ‘Sancho is still a long way from being in the form of last season’.
Not only that, but ‘he does not always seem to be 100% with his head on the matter’ and Bild claim their own information has told them ‘his lack of discipline is always an issue in the team’.
It’s not directly stated that his busy summer has anything to do with it, but the fact Sancho’s head clearly isn’t in the game is probably a remnant of what took place.
What else could it be, really?
