Leicester City midfielder Adrien Silva is on the front page of Portugal’s two biggest sport newspapers today.
The reason for it is that for the first time since leaving Sporting in 2016, the player admitted his wish to return to the club in the near future.
His desire was made clear in a live chat on Instagram last night. He was speaking to volleyball player Miguel Maia, who’s a Lions fan and asked him to go back to the Lisbon side.
“I’ve never hidden it. I always said it could be a very, very valid option. Soon we will see what will happen,” said Adrien Silva.
“Going back has been about to happen at other times… But I belong to Leicester and I’m on loan at Monaco, let’s see what can happen.”
Each newspaper brings their own take on the situation. Record points out that Adrien has a good relationship both with president Frederico Varandas, who opened doors for him in an interview in January, and with José Maria Ricciardi, who’s a potential candidate to take charge of the club.
But the outlet points out that the biggest problem should be his wages, since he has a gross salary of €4.6m per season, something that Sporting are very unlikely to afford. Their current captain, Sebastian Coates, makes €2.8m.
Meanwhile, newspaper A Bola got the information which says that given the positive scenario, Sporting are indeed working to bring Adrien back to the club, as long as they find an affordable operation.
They say that playing in Portugal would improve Adrien’s chances to be in the squad for the Euros next year, so that’s another advantage for the Lisbon side.
