Newcastle United youngster Travis Hernes has been out on loan at AaB Fodbold since the winter market.
Campo in Denmark had a chat with the 19-year-old, who explained his new teammates have helped him settle in quickly at the new club.
He joined Newcastle from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2023 and represented their youth teams so far. The midfielder played eight games for Newcastle U18s and 12 for their U21 since joining them.
Hernes hasn’t yet made his senior team debut, but Eddie Howe has included him in the match day squad on two occasions and both were in January 2024.
Since moving to the Danish club on a temporary deal, the Newcastle youngster made four appearances, and it includes three consecutive starts.
The Norway U20 international has experienced first team football for the first time in his career. His decision to leave Newcastle on loan seems to have been working out well so far.
“It has been a tough but good transition to senior football,” he said.
The Newcastle owned midfielder insists he had prepared himself for the transition, but the Danish top division has surprised him.
“The Superliga is very different from academy football. It’s much more physical, and the players are much stronger and everything goes much faster,” Hernes explained.
“I was prepared for there to be a difference, but I’ll say that I was surprised by the pace of the game. But when I have teammates who help me and are used to the pace, you quickly get into the rhythm.”
