Over the past few weeks, or even month or so, Hector Herrera’s future has been widely discussed in Portugal, as the Mexico international’s contract slowly comes to an end.
We’ve covered most of the attention, and when Crystal Palace were present at a game to watch Porto take on Benfica, we suggested the Eagles might have been there to see how the midfielder was doing, also explicitly stating he would probably be looking for something else.
However, that got twisted by the English press, which then travelled back to Portugal, and now it’s made its way to Italy, where Watford have now somehow become the favourites to sign him.
Gazzetta dello Sport look at some of the players who could be available on a free next summer for Italian clubs, and Herrera is discussed for Inter and Roma.
However, they also have a warning, stating the Hornets, owned by the Pozzo family, are going ‘full speed’ towards Herrera, joined by Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
Where this has come from, we’re not exactly sure, since neither Watford nor the Gunners were present at the Porto vs Benfica game, but they’ve taken a mind of their own, being twisted along the way.
It could be the Hornets are interested, but if they are, they really haven’t made it obvious in the slightest, and are certainly not showing this ‘full speed ahead’ mentality that’s described in Italy.
