There’s significant change happening at AC Milan this summer, and that means an overhaul of the current squad.
Marco Giampaolo is assessing the squad he inherited from Gennaro Gattuso and deciding who he wants and who needs to be moved on.
And according to Calciomercato, Franck Kessie is one of those who is free to leave. The midfielder made 42 appearances in all competitions for Milan last season but is now surplus to requirements.
Giampaolo has put him up for sale, potentially to help finance a deal for Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira this summer.
Kessie has plenty of admirers and at least three in the Premier League according to Calciomercato. Among them are Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton.
Milan want at least €35m for the Ivory Coast international, who they signed in a permanent deal from Atalanta this summer for €24m. Although, an earlier €7m loan fee took it over thirty million in total.
Arsenal and Tottenham’s interest makes plenty of sense, with both of those clubs in need of a central midfielder this summer. Indeed, at 22-years-old, Kessie would fit perfectly into the type of players Spurs prefer to sign. However, they’ve both been linked so many times and for so long that throwing them in could be a force of habit.
Everton’s interest is a little more confusing. They are already signing Andre Gomes from Barcelona this summer and will probably be spending the rest of their money elsewhere.
Perhaps they would look at Kessie should Idrissa Gana Gueye depart, or if they sell Morgan Schneiderlin and James McCarthy. If neither of those things happen, though, it’s hard to see why they’d be interested.
