Over the past few weeks, the rumours surrounding Antonio Rüdiger’s future have started to reappear, with some members of the English press saying a transfer could be possible, and Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea labeled as potential destinations.
The latter of the quartet have been the most interested over the past year, with bids reported from Antonio Conte’s side early last summer before the player suffered a knee ligament injury while on international duty with Germany ahead of the World Cup.
While most would be inclined to believe a move could happen in January, the Italian media see it very differently, with Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday reporting any winter transfer is completely off the cards.
The Italian newspaper say that Chelsea came back on a new offensive a few weeks ago, but were told “no thank you”, and there were even hints that a deal next summer would be difficult as Roma see him as an important member of their squad.
Luciano Spalletti certainly has no plans to see the young German defender leave his side, and with the Serie A club on a good run of form, having recently beaten city rivals Lazio, there’s little doubt the club would be prepared to back him to the hilt on this.
