The Wolves and Jorge Mendes link is known around European football well these days and that’s why when a Gestifute player is looking for a new club, Nuno Espirito Santo’s club are often named.
Monday’s edition of Il Messaggero does just that.
Wallace Fortuna dos Santos signed for Lazio in 2016 from SC Braga and did well in his first season before dropping off in the last campaign after injury.
Il Messaggero say he was ‘unrecognisable from the previous year’ and appeared ‘fearful’ given the fitness issues.
In early September Wallace suffered a calf injury and didn’t return until late November. He found himself in and out of the Lazio team for the rest of the season and is now being edged towards the exit.
It sounds like a lack of patience from Lazio in the 23 year old Brazilian, but the Italian newspaper state: ‘Thanks to his powerful agent Jorge Mendes, he could go to Portugal, perhaps at Sporting Lisbon (possible compensation for Gelson Martins as well as money) or be diverted to Wolverhampton in England.’
Wolves fans probably know that Mendes and Sporting haven’t had the best relationship recently, with a public spat over the failure of Rui Patricio’s original move to the English club.
Things have changed a little since, with Patricio moving as a free agent and Bruno de Carvalho being ousted as Sporting president over the weekend.
There’s no claims of talks, just a suggestion Wallace could be sent to Wolves.
