If you’ve been following the transfer rumour mill even semi-closely over the years, you’ll know the Italian media love a good story, and will most likely try and push it as much as they can.
This means that when a newspaper in Italy try and quash something that has started abroad, there probably isn’t a lot to it.
This is what has happened on Thursday, as Corriere dello Sport try and distance Lazio from a deal involving Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno.
The Independent in England claimed on Wednesday the Serie A side were ‘close to a pre-contract’ agreement with the Spanish defender, which their Italian counterparts refute.
They state the only discussions involving Lazio and a Liverpool player are the ones ongoing for Bobby Adekanye, explaining there has been no confirmation within the Rome-based club regarding a deal for Moreno.
Already boasting Senad Lulic as a starter down their left-hand side and either Jordan Lukaku or Riza Durmisi as backup, bringing in a rather expensive (wage wise) 26-year-old on top of the trio wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
At least, that’s how they see it.
Maybe it will happen, but, from our experience, it’s very unlike Corriere to not just run away with a story when it’s presented to them.
