Following their relegation back to the Championship, big questions are going to be asked of players and staff at Watford in the coming weeks.
Gazzetta dello Sport, who have some affinity for the club (much like the rest of the Italian media) due to the Pozzo ownership, have a look at the situation and believe a ‘reconstruction’ will take place going forward for the Hornets.
They say that a ‘team with a Championship mentality’ must be set up, and it ‘will focus on young players’.
Furthermore, Watford’s stars ‘must be sold’, and they name Gerard Deulofeu, Abdoulaye Doucouré, Roberto Pereyra and Ismaïla Sarr as some of the potential sacrifices, followed by the big question mark surrounding their ‘bulky captain’ Troy Deeney.
As for the next manager, ‘the mother of all decisions’ will need to be taken: will he be Italian or ‘foreign’?
Either way, it seems he probably won’t be English and Gazzetta seem convinced that the ‘internal discussion has already begun’ at Vicarage Road.
