Arsenal will hope they can turn their Premier League season around against Norwich City on Saturday, with the Gunners currently bottom of the top flight, having failed to score a goal in any of their three matches.
Mikel Arteta’s men will be expected to take all three points, and if they fail to do so then the cloud over the Emirates will grow ever darker. A loss is near unthinkable.
Whilst Arteta has been receiving some criticism for his approach, it’s not too unfair to say Edu Gaspar should also be very much in the spotlight.
Arsenal’s recruitment since the Brazilian arrived has been a long way from flawless, and if Arteta ultimately fails then it makes sense for Edu’s situation to also come under doubt.
Marc Overmars, who is in the role at Ajax, has previously been linked with taking up a director’s job at Arsenal, where he impressed as a player.
Asked about potentially returning to Arsenal or Barcelona, where he also played, Mundo Deportivo quote the Dutchman as saying: “At a certain point the thing is simple: either I continue and I stay here in Ajax or we go abroad again as a family. I have let that train pass six times.
“They are both interesting. I think my family would choose Spain. We lived there very comfortably. And I think they would also choose Barcelona.”
Should Barcelona not come calling, and there’s no signs they will, then the road is clearer for Arsenal.
