As the race for Athletic Club Bilbao star Alex Berenguer heats up, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Brentford are all named as potential destinations for him today.
A fresh story on the 28-year-old’s future is brought by Estadio Deportivo, who highlights the ‘market opportunity’ he is for many clubs this summer.
Wolves, Crystal Palace and Brentford are along with the likes of Leicester City and Sevilla, as well as Italian clubs, in the race for the winger.
Berenguer’s contract with Athletic expires at the end of the season, and that’s why so many clubs are after him. So far, the only actual ‘formal offer’ on his table is for a renewal with the Basque side. And he hasn’t decided whether to accept or decline that yet.
Estadio Deportivo highlights that the interest from Wolves, Crystal Palace and Brentford is ‘very serious’, despite making it clear that there haven’t been strong moves for a contract offer so far.
It seems Berenguer will first need to decide whether to stay or go, and only then those clubs will actually come for him. He’s surely a club hero at Athletic Bilbao after scoring in their cup win, and that could be an argument for him to continue there, as we all know that’s a club that awakes special feelings from their players.
