The agent for Napoli centre-back Amir Rrahmani has confirmed there is plenty of interest in his client, amid reports Manchester United are keen.
Rrahmani has been a key player in the heart of Napoli’s defence this season alongside Kalidou Koulibaly, with 35 appearances in all competitions so far.
This has reportedly earned him plenty of attention inside Italy and outside of it, too, with a report last week stating Manchester United are looking at the 28-year-old.
That was a surprising claim, to say the least, and is yet to be followed up or even covered by any of the major outlets as yet, meaning it has to be taken with a big pinch of salt at this moment in time.
And, while refusing to name Manchester United in particular, he admitted thee is plenty of interest in his man.
“We have interest from many teams for Amir Rrahmani. The player is under contract with Napoli and feels good there,” he told them.
“Amir will play in the Champions League, and Napoli is very close to securing this.”
Now, the outlet have taken the line that because Aliaj ‘is not even denying that (interest) of Manchester United’, it’s basically the same as admitting it.
That’s clearly not the case, and given where the rumour has come from and these comments, we’ll stick with our decision to be sceptical for the time being.
On the face of it, a move for a 28-year-old defender would make little sense, given United already have Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, never mind Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.
They’re well covered, and if they were to make a signing, it would surely be for someone a bit more long-term, hence the links to Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo.
He makes far more sense than Rrahmani, but we’re sure that won’t stop these comments being twisted by the murky transfer rumour machine at some point.
