Manchester City fans will surely remember that, towards the end of June, a dinner meeting between Pep Guardiola and Kylian Mbappe was reported. Manchester City are one of several clubs repeatedly linked with the AS Monaco player, and it’s not unusual for Guardiola to speak to players before his club signs them.
Guardiola’s chats with potential signings have become a regular thing, and whilst Manchester City may sometimes want to keep them a secret before a player sings, afterwards it’s often the signing himself who raves about his conversation with the Catalan manager.
Guardiola, Mbappe, and the player’s entourage were said to have had dinner in Manchester, yet the logistics didn’t fit with where each man apparently was on the given day, and it was very hard to believe that not only had nobody seen Mbappe arrive in Manchester, bit nobody had seen him dine with Guardiola either.
The story was brushed off as fake, but Tuesday’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe reiterates it, pushing home they think it happened. This time it’s not stated the meeting was in Manchester, which opens up the possibility of it actually happening, but somewhere else.
L’Equipe’s interest is because PSG are making a renewed effort to convince Mbappe to sign for them. PSG are trying all they can to get Mbappe to agree to join them, and then they can fight with AS Monaco.
PSG won’t make any offers until they get a yes from Mbappe, and even then there’s no guarantee Monaco would accept an offer. On top of that, the French club face competition from others, with Manchester City the side mentioned by L’Equipe this time.
