Real Madrid have ‘not received any proposal’ from Arsenal regarding Luka Jovic, and the player will not be leaving the Bernabeu anyway.
That’s according to Marca, who say an injury to Karim Benzema has seen the Spanish giants rule out any departure for the Serbian.
Recent reports had indicated that Arsenal were keen on Jovic as they look to add a striker to their squad before the end of the transfer window.
They may need to replace Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who is out of favour under Mikel Arteta and a player they would happily get rid of given his huge wages.
Jovic is likewise out of favour in Spain, having been a huge flop since his arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019, a fact that potentially opened the door for Arsenal.
Marca say a move to the Emirates won’t be happening, though, courtesy of an injury to Benzema.
While that is not a serious problem, it has been seen as a warning sign that the Frenchman could be out of action again in the near future, something that would spoil Madrid’s title campaign and Champions League effort.
Jovic would be his replacement in the squad, particularly as Mariano Diaz is injured also, and so they’ve decided to ‘close the door’ to the possibility for now.
Not that there was an offer from Arsenal anyway. While reports have stated they are keen and want to sign the striker immediately, Madrid insist they ‘have not received any proposal’.
Those in charge at the Bernabeu believe now is not the time to think of a deal for Jovic anyway, and they will instead look to move him on in the summer in a deal that suits them and the player.
