On Tuesday, Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat missed Morocco’s 3-0 win over Liberia in the AFCON qualifiers.
The midfielder was left out of the squad for the Atlas Lions’ friendly win over Ivory Coast last week and his attempts to get back in for yesterday’s clash ‘failed’ due to an injury.
That’s according to Alayam24, who make no mention of the nature of the injury suffered by the Manchester United player.
The Red Devils take on Sheffield United at the weekend and Erik ten Hag could provide clarity on the 27-year-old’s availability in his pre-match press conference.
Prior to the tie against Liberia, Morocco manager Walid Regragui said that he was well aware of Amrabat’s situation.
“We will not hide behind absences, because we knew about Amrabat’s absence before the start of the camp. Amrabat can get injured at some point. We must find a solution and alternative, and we have players capable of filling the void that Sofyan will leave,” he said, relayed by Almaghreb 24.
The national team manager also explained why the Manchester United midfielder’s setback has made him ‘happy’.
“With Amrabat, there’s always an addition, just like what happens to Egypt in the event of Mohamed Salah’s presence or absence,” Regragui explained.
“The heavy absences make us happy because we want to see alternatives and solutions before the start of the African Cup, and facing Ivory Coast was important and helped us to do so.”
Regragui has not provided any clarity on the nature of Amrabat’s injury.
On deadline day, Manchester United signed the Morocco international from Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy and he’s made six appearances this season.
