Kepa somehow managed to live something of a dream come true during the summer window as he finally got the chance to play for Real Madrid.
The Chelsea owner goalkeeper was almost Los Blancos’ first choice stopper some years ago, and all for the relative bargain price of €20m, before Zinedine Zidane ruined everything after deciding he wouldn’t be an improvement on Keylor Navas.
That saw Athletic Club Bilbao hike his buyout clause, and, in the not too distant future, Chelsea paid the lot, €80m, to take the Spaniard to London.
Things didn’t really work out and Thibaut Courtois, the player Kepa was supposed to replace at Chelsea, picking up a serious injury presented the chance of a loan to Real Madrid.
That loan has been going relatively well.., but there’s now a hiccup.
Friday’s edition of AS reports Kepa is ‘injured in the right abductor’. That means the Chelsea owned player will be out for three weeks.
Fortunately for him, at least from a club perspective, much of that will be covered by the upcoming international break.
What happens next summer with Kepa is still very much in the air.
