Last week, Botafogo’s new owner John Textor confirmed that he’d like to sign Manchester United star Edinson Cavani in the next summer window.
Now according to reports from the Brazilian media, that plan has already been put into action.
Lance claims that ‘initial talks’ happened between Botafogo’s officials and Cavani’s staff.
Pointing out that the striker’s contract with Manchester United expires in June, the report claims the player ‘should not stay’ with the Red Devils, and will then be able to move for free.
It’s said the talks were started by a group of people who have the trust of John Textor, who has Cavani as ‘one of his favourite players’, making him the ‘big objective’ for Botafogo, who’d have him as the ‘great star’ in this new phase.
Lance claims the talks are still in their early stages, as a contract wasn’t even discussed yet. For now, the Rio de Janeiro side only want to show they’re in the running for his signing.
