Manchester City striker Erling Haaland remains an option for Real Madrid next summer.
That’s according to AS, who say part of Los Blancos’ board believe it’s best to chase the 23-year-old over Kylian Mbappé. The Paris Saint-Germain forward prefers to operate on the left and his arrival could impact Vinícius Júnior.
Real Madrid currently don’t have an out-and-out senior striker and the Manchester City star could be a perfect option for them.
It’s claimed the Madrid club have found out the details of the clause in his deal, which lasts until 2027. The fee is in excess of €200m for 2024 and will start decreasing.
AS say the ‘information leaked by Manchester City itself’ that the Norway international’s future depends on Pep Guardiola’s stay isn’t true. They add there is no ‘clause linking’ Haaland’s deal to the manager’s contract [until 2025].
The former Borussia Dortmund man can leave the Citizens after this season and this is what Los Blancos have been working on.
A potential deal would depend ‘exclusively on Madrid being able to convince him’, mostly with their sporting project because Carlo Ancelotti’s side cannot match Haaland’s current deal at the Etihad.
Real Madrid have the necessary funds to secure the Norwegian’s services next year.
A deal could be difficult because AS have found out from Haaland’s entourage that a move away from Manchester City before 2025 ‘seems complicated’.
Haaland thinks the ‘time to leave’ Manchester City is in the summer of 2025, which is when Guardiola’s current deal expires.
