Houssem Aouar certainly wasn’t one of the players most linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side were linked at the end of 2018. After Pep Guardiola’s side and Lyon were involved in a Champions League draw, there were claims of interest.
Guardiola and his assistant Mikel Arteta were seen talking to Aouar after the match, and a few days later, French newspaper L’Equipe pushed the story further.
They claimed Manchester City had contacted the midfielder’s entourage, and interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea was also reported.
Then it went largely quiet, yet Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe reports clubs were interested in signing the Lyon player during the summer transfer window… ‘including Manchester City’.
Both player and club decided against a move, and since then Aouar hasn’t had a great start to the season. He’s said to be one of the players most ‘shaken’ by Bruno Genesio’s departure and the arrival of Sylvinho.
Lyon face PSG on Sunday evening, and L’Equipe state ‘his attitude will be watched’. A big evening for the 21 year old, during a difficult spell of his career.
Should he continue not to be entirely comfortable at Lyon then a transfer is clearly likelier going forward, however, Manchester City aren’t going to be so impressed if he regresses rather than progresses.
